MHA joins lawsuit against the short-term, limited-duration plan final rule

WASHINGTON–The Association for Community Affiliated Plans (ACAP), National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), Mental Health America, American Psychiatric Association (APA), AIDS United, National Partnership for Women & Families, and Little Lobbyists today filed suit in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia to invalidate the short-term, limited-duration insurance (STLDI) plan rule issued last month by three federal agencies.

While Mental Health America (MHA) supports the recent decision by the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia to block the work requirements under Medicaid expansion in the state of Kentucky, MHA warns that it should not now be used to deny people with serious behavioral health conditions the Medicaid coverage to which they are entitled.

Throughout the three days MHA will present several awards and are happy to announce today the recipients of the Clifford W. Beers Award, the Innovation in Programming Award, the Media Award, the youth-focused mPower Award, and the George Goodman and Ruth P. Brudney Social Work Award.

The shooting at the high school in Parkland, Florida hit close to home for me. Literally. It is about forty miles from my home in Lake Worth; ironically, this is about the same distance the Sandy Hook shooting was from my former home in Middletown, Connecticut.
