Personal Outcome Measures

Personal Outcome Measures

Personal Outcome Measures (POMs) are indicators of an individual’s quality of life. They apply to the WHOLE person and help facilitators and participants consider what is meaningful and important for them. In this way, POMs differ from current traditional medical models.

A POM interview helps facilitators know if a particular outcome is present or not present in a person’s life. Additionally, it allows for facilitators to document where people are in different areas in their lives including personal goals and relationships. This measurement provides a number of benefits including:

  • Helping facilitators determine improvement and success.
  • Helping participants identify and assess where they are currently.
  • And helping participants identify areas they want to see improved and determine what steps they can take to receive this change.

In this video, Patrick Hendry discusses POMs and their importance in our Peer Partners Support Group model.
